  • USAID/JSI GLOBAL VAX PROJECT IN TANO NORTH & TANO SOUTH IN THE AHAFO REGION

In 2022, MIHOSO International Foundation a subgrantee of USAID/JSI Strengthening the Care Continuum Project in the Ahafo Regions received an addendum to implement the USAID initiative for Global Vaccine Access (Global Vax) project in collaboration with Ghana Health Service in both Tano North & Tano South Municipal. The goal of this project is to provide support to the Government of Ghana (GOG) and to accelerate Ghana's progress in attaining the 95-95-95 UNAIDS targets by achieving epidemic control in the three (3) regions thus Western, Western North and Ahafo Regions. The target beneficiaries of the project were all persons, 15 years and above including pregnant women, PLHIV, people with disability, migrant populations and KPs (FSW, MSM). The project was implemented within a 6 months period, with funding from USAID through JSI.

Goal:
To ensure greater awareness and acceptance by the general population; persons 15 years and above including pregnant women, PLHIV, people with disability, migrant populations and KPs (FSW, MSM) of the COVID-19 vaccine to reduce widespread infection in three selected regions.

Objectives:

  • To increase awareness through education on COVID-19 revention, uptake of the vaccine of the general public by June 2023.
  • To increase uptake of COVID-19 vaccines by at least 85% to 90% of minority groups of PLHIV, MSM, FSW, people with disability and marginalized populations by 2023.
  • To build capacities of FBO/CBO, Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) partners, health service providers, key community influencers and key stakeholders to implement the COVID 19 immunization intervention by June 2023.


  • Grow Up Free (GUF) Project

In 2019, MIHOSO international Foundation partnered with FTS to implement the Growing up free project in two districts within the Bono East Region. These districts are Pru East and Sene East

The project seeks to enhance the effectiveness of Ghana’s efforts to combat child trafficking.

Prevention Objectives are:

An increased number of child trafficking victims in 10 districts and 50 communities in 5 regions receive comprehensive, gender-sensitive, trauma-informed care and case management services with appropriate community integration and follow up.

The public’s increased awareness and knowledge of child trafficking in Ghana prevents child trafficking from occurring and promotes appropriate community action when child trafficking is suspected.

Families of children rescued through this program and identified as at-risk in program communities will be able to provide for the basic needs of their children, including shelter, food, healthcare, and education.


  • PREVENTION OF EARLY FORCED MARRIAGES AMONG ADOLESCENT GIRLS IN THE NKORANZA AND KINTAMPO NORTH DISTRICTS

MIHOSO International Foundation (Mission of Hope) in partnership with Gender Studies and Human Rights Documentation Centre (GSHRDC) both non-governmental are committed to the promotion and protection of the rights of women, youth, and children through Evidence-Based Research, Advocacy, Capacity building, Training, Sharing of Resources, and Provision of Livelihood Empowerment Programs to target women, Youth and Children in Ghana, especially in marginalized and deprived areas. Their objective is to usher in local economic development alongside a meaningful lifestyle. It is therefore against this background that MIHOSO in partnership with the Gender Centre implemented a two-year project with funding from the European Union (EU). The project was focused on early forced marriages in Nkoranza North District and Kintampo North Municipal Assembly.

Goal:
The overall objective of the project is to promote and protect the rights of adolescent Girls in Nkoranza and Kintampo North districts in the Brong Ahafo Region. The project specifically seeks to reduce the prevalence of early forced marriages among Adolescent Girls in the Nkoranza and Kintampo North Districts.

  • ADRA Ghana/Global Fund For HIV/AIDS Round 8 Program

The ADRA Ghana/Global Fund for HIV/AIDS Round 8 program is designed to reinforce the scaling up of HIV/AIDS prevention activities and reducing the incidents of new HIV infections. The program requires the use of innovative and multi-faceted methodologies to ensure effective behavior change and also to meet the reproductive health needs of the vulnerable groups and the general population.

The project seeks to address gaps in the national response such as; superficial understanding of HIV in many segments of the population including youth, and an inability to move people from general knowledge and awareness of risk to actually adopting behavior, insufficient targeting of most at risk populations and vulnerable groups, slow integration of HIV/AIDS and sexual reproductive health, as well as the shortfall in institutional and community capacities to rapidly scale-up comprehensive HIV services.

The project is being implemented by ADRA as a Principal Recipient (PR) from Global Fund.

MIHOSO International was a sub-recipient; phase 1 of the ADRA Ghana/Global Fund for HIV, TB, and Malaria. MIHOSO International has implemented the project in ten districts in then Brong Ahafo Region, as well as in two districts in the Ashante Region and one district in Upper West, East, and Northern Regions respectively.


  • Agro-Forestry, Environmental Protection, and Food Security Project

The United Nations Development Program - Global Environmental Facility contracted MIHOSO International to implement an 18 month pilot project in three communities in Jirapa in the Upper West Region of Ghana. The title of the project was, "Enhancing Community Investment in the Restoration of Degraded Lands in Jirapa, Douri, and Tizza Through Sustainable Land Management Practices, Livelihood Enterprise Development and Market Access Development in the Jirapa District."

The specific objectives of the project are as follows;

  • To promote sustainable agricultural practices among farmers in the Jirapa, Douri, and Tizza areas to enable them to restore the degraded lands through integrated water and soil management, introducing farmers to sustainable livelihood activities, and developing access to market opportunities locally and globally.
  • To support sustainable small reminant rearing, guinea fowl, keeping and groundnut cultivation as a livelihood supplement and supporting farmers to access fair and ready markets for their produce in order to increase their incomes
  • To build and sustain capacities of farmers to enable them to identify innovative strategies, approaches and models in linking trade and livelihoods to sustainable land management.

The project has been able to make the following positive impacts;

  • Three agro forestry schemes were developed on the farms of indigenous farmers and are being practiced.
  • Multipurpose woodlot plantations in Degri in Douri have been established
  • Farmers have been trained in the cultivation of tradable savannah agricultural products such as moringa, mangoes, and soya beans.
  • Training for 290 women was organized to develop skills as artisans to process and trade in seeds and oils.

  • Business Sector Advocacy Challenge Fund

MIHOSO International is providing consultancy services to business associations in Ghana through the DANIDA, USAID, and EU multi-donor funding mechanism. MIHOSO International has made significant strides in the area of BUSAC in the past and is currently supporting 25 private sector organizations/groups in 5 regions in Ghana (Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, and the three Northern Regions).

Overall objectives of the BUSAC Fund are;

To ensure broader engagement of the private sector in policy making and policy implementation at national, regional, and local levels

To strengthen the capacity of private sector representative organizations to advocate for pro-business sector reform in Ghana

To improve the private sector by assisting to remove bottlenecks at all levels of administration

To broaden public understanding of the role of business in society


  • Community Malaria Project

MIHOSO International is partnering with Family Health International (FHI 360 Ghana) to contribute to addressing the malaria situation in the Pru District in Brong Ahafo. The Family Health International GSK program is a home based capacity building and intervention strategy aimed at malaria management in the Pru District, Brong Ahafo Region.

The main goal of the project is to contribute to the reduction of malaria and its problems related to morbidity and mortality in the Pru District.

The Project is ongoing. To date, 4,782 mothers and children have been reached with the following services;

Increased early recognition of malaria illness and provision of appropriate treatment within 24-48 hours of symptom onset at the community level including referrals of malaria illness from communities to health facilities.

Improvement of knowledge, awareness and preventive health seeking behaviors at the community level through the aid of trained community health volunteers and Mothers Against Malaria (MAM) clubs.

Increase in agricultural productivity due to the reduction in malaria cases.

The project is financed by GSK through Family Health International 360 (FHI360).

  • MIHOSO and Dolls for World Peace Project

Since 2010, MIHOSO International has been working with Dolls for World Peace, based in South Florida, USA. The main objectives of the project are promoting diversity, peace, human rights, and giving aid to the less privileged in the world, especially children.

Through this project, dolls are transported from USA to Africa, putting smiles on the faces of orphans and vulnerable children. Communities are also engaged in peace building and self-help projects to build schools. 


  • COVAX Impact

MIHOSO International Foundation started as a human rights and social development non-governmental organization working to ensure that women and children have access to social services, protection and full recognition in development partnership. MIHOSO was founded on the principle of sharing and working with underserved, marginalized and deprived women and children. This mission was accomplished through capacity building, right based advocacy, support to orphans and vulnerable children’s education, research and develop partnership in Ghana. In line with efforts to continue and sustain this progress, MIHOSO International Foundation is partnering with JSI in implementing the USAID Strengthening the Care Continuum Project in the Ahafo Regions of Ghana. The goal of this project is to provide support to the Government of Ghana (GOG) and to accelerate Ghana's progress in attaining the 95-95-95 UNAIDS targets by achieving epidemic control in the three (3) regions thus Western, Western North and Ahafo Regions.

The Care Continuum project has received an addendum to implement the Global VAX project within its existing geographic scope in partnership with GHS. In this vein, MIHOSO International is one of the CSOs who can be leveraged on our long outstanding track records in implementing health programs in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions. We have strong community entry skills and connection to KP networks to mobilize PLHIV and KPs (MSM and FSW), people with disability and marginalized populations to access COVID-19 vaccines in the Ahafo region. The target beneficiaries of the project are all persons 15 years and above including pregnant women, PLHIV, people with disability, migrant populations and KPs (FSW, MSM), for a period of six (6) months renewable based on the availability of funds. The project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Goal

  • USAID/JSI Strengthening the Care Continuum Project in Ahafo Region

MIHOSO international Foundation is currently partnering with John Snow Institutes (JSI), an international NGO dedicated to improving people’s lives around the world through greater health, education, and socioeconomic equity for individuals and communities, and to providing an environment where people of passion can pursue this cause. MIHOSO is one of the implementing partners of the USAID Strengthening the Care Continuum Project in Western, Western North and Ahafo Regions of Ghana.

As part of the implementation activities in reducing the HIV and AIDS prevalence in Ghana, MIHOSO International Foundation with funding support from JSI/USAID Strengthening the Care Continuum project is working in two (2) Municipalities of the Ahafo Region, namely Tano North and South.

Goal:
To Scaling-up effective case finding, linkage to ART, and retention on treatment to achieve epidemic control to achieve the 95-95-95 Target.

Objectives:
The specific objectives of the project are:

  1. Increased availability and access to comprehensive active case finding, care and treatment services, including reliable coverage across the continuum of care for KPs and general population (GP).
  2. Enhanced and sustained demand for comprehensive prevention, care, and treatment services among KPs (FSW and their non- paying partners, PLHIV), and GPs (AGYW, men and boys, pregnant women and other women).
  3. Strengthened linkage and retention in care for KPs and GPs who test positive to HIV.
  4. Strengthened systems for planning, monitoring, evaluating, and ensuring the quality of programs.

  • Multi-Sectoral HIV/AIDS Program Fund

MIHOSO International, in partnership with the Gender Studies and Human Rights Documentation Center, has implemented HIV/AIDS project under the Prevention and Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) intervention titled, "Action to Reduce HIV/AIDS further infections through Peer Education and Community Advocacy" in the Pru and Nkoranza North Districts in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Over 7,500 people in the districts have been reached with BCC messages such as prevention, reproductive health/family planning, HIV stigma reduction, HIV testing and counseling, and HIV care services through outreach programs in the districts. The populations reached are among in-school youth, out of school youth, and the general population in 20 communities. Gender violence and rights were also integrated into the project.

  • National Meseals Campaign Support

The organization with its own initiatives took part in the three day National Immunization Campaign with the district Ghana Health Service. The health directorate identified some hard to reach communities for the organization to campaign on the incoming immunization exercise and to advocate for allowing women and children to participate in the exercise to eliminate the long term negative effects of meseals on children. The organization also transported some of the materials needed for the exercise to some of the communities. MIHOSO International's participation in this exercise aided the health directorate to achieve 73% of its target, which they have never met according to the District Disease Officer.

This project was a pilot and MIHOSO International is developing a comprehensive program out of the pilot for some selected districts in Ghana.

  • Rural and Small Town Water and Sanitation Program

MIHOSO International is contracted to implement in the Government of the Republic of Ghana and the Agence Francaise de Developpement Peri-Urban, Rural, and Small Town Water Supply and Sanitation Project (RSTWSSP) in the Brong Ahafo Region.

This has been partly due to the inadequate attention given to potable water, community sanitation issues, and lower priority placed on sanitation and hygiene by communities in the Region. The project is placing a strong emphasis on sanitation with the intention of giving this sub-sector more attention than it has previously received.

MIHOSO International was awarded a contract under the LOT 6 as Partner Organization and LOT 2 as Hygiene, Education, and Sanitation consultant to provide consultancy services to communities in 6 municipalities and district assemblies; Nkoranza North, Nkoranza South, Kintampo North Municipal, Kintampo South, Wenchi Municipal, and Techiman Municipal. In total, 132 Peri-Urban and Rural communities are benefiting directly, reaching over 79,200 people. 60% of the total population are children and young people.

To date, specific objectives performed include;

Coached communities to identify their water and sanitation needs for assistance;

Sensitized the communities to manage their installed and constructed facilities in a sustainable manner;

Promoted the empowerment of women in the decision-making process for the sustainable ownership and management of water and sanitation facilities and household/environmental hygiene education;

Reviewed the existing and/or established 126 WATSAN committees in the beneficiary communities to meet the demands of the proposed facility; and

Trained and developed the members of the WATSAN committees and equipt them with the skills and knowledge needed to function effectively for the management of water, hygiene and sanitation facilities.
